In the spring I have counted one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather inside of four and twenty hours. ~ Mark Twain

Twain’s sentiment about the mercurial nature of spring could certainly have been written with the Pacific Northwest in mind.

While the weather – and much about next year – seems unsettled right now, one thing is certain: Next week is spring break for our students and the majority of our staff. Whether you are working next week or enjoying the break away from your work, take some time for yourself. The very nature of what we do requires selflessness and dedication to others.

Our work can be stressful. Wellness Coordinator Gail Buquicchio says April is Stress Awareness Month. How timely! Researchers tell us that a certain amount of stress is good for us; it maintains vitality and a zest for life. Too much can dampen our abilities to function, damage health and zap vitality. Thanks for working so faithfully to maintain this year’s momentum and energy level, and thank you for taking care of yourself and your colleagues as we prepare for the work ahead. I know it takes extra energy to keep students engaged when spring is in the air, and we hear the siren's song of a beautiful summer just around the corner.

Whatever spring break holds for you, enjoy it with those you care about. And thank you for your work and dedication each day of the year. Happy spring break!
